Hi Folks: I was able to get ashore for a couple hours here in Espana. I had a very enjoyable 10K walk (r/t) to a nice beach. No where near as nice as Pt Pleasant, NJ. Also full os spanards! I bought a few trinkets and came back early to rest up for watch. No Paella this time. I thought I might eat ashore but I checked the menu 1st. There was chicken Parm here that was great. I had 2 breasts and a salad. THEN after walking I was tempted to indulge in very good spanish helado (ice cream). Very good but the Italians put the world to shame with theirs. I will be sailing manana en el Tarde (tomorrow afternoon). It will be full ahead to Alexandria.

Hi Guys: I am enjoying the gym here. Almost every day. I use exercycle and I have hoosen to integrate wt training along with it. I am using 12 lb handweights. I try to cycle between 19-20 mph. While cycling I do sets of curls (20 reps) and Overhead presses ((20 reps). I repeat the sets 5 times for a total of 100 reps. You will definitely bust a sweat as I cycle for 30 minutes. It could be a summer olympic event. Hey, who linked skiing and shooting and called it BIATHELON. We could link cycling and weight training and than hit golf shots for closest to the pin. I think it could catch on.

Hi Guys: I am writing to you folks because sometimes the mails I send or you send are getting lost in cyberspace. I can tell by your references.

For the sailorron blog: SAILORRON SEZ: “The only thing keeping this ship from perfection is the lack of an elevator and a Basketball Hoop!” There is a 6 flight schlepp from the main deck (that is where you are if you walk UP the gangway to the bridge. Kind of like my life at home where all things are at least 2 decks apart. I am off to the gym to try to stay fit! DO keep those e-mails coming!

I was nervous as I awaited the job call today. I was nervous getting ready to leave for the job call. I DID have the superior card and I took the relief 3/m mate job on the Maersk Vermont. It is a one trip relief so I should get back in Mid-July. I do not sign on until the 6th so I am flying to Pittsburgh for a last w’end with the family there beforeb I ship out. Things were too smooth. After the stress of the Union Hall Job Call exercise I headed under the river on the Path Train to WTC to get my physical and see Lori Ann at E-Ships on Whitehall Street. Once I determined I would have a 3 day weekend off before my job began I advised J and she was able to book me on a RT flight from EWR - PIT. We added a rental car and reduced the price of the Airline tickets by over 1/2. When I hit the street I called G and arranged to meet him by the Butt of the Bronze Bull- at the north end of Battery park. We took the train and miraculously the Jeep was NOT blocked in at the parking lot. We were headed towards EWR when an inspiration bloomed in my mind. Better check my messages. There were 4 new messages on my cell phone. The last one was from US Air. “Due to equiptment unavailability your flight is CANCELLED. This was heard just as I entered the on ramp for the Pulaski Skyway. J was better than ONSTAR as usual. She was able to find a flight from NY Lag departing at 750 pm. The problem was it was now 530 pm and we were headed the wrong way in NJ. I took the 1st exit after the Skyway which dumped me in Newark. It was a long slow slough in rush hour traffic across McClinton Street (21) to get to the on ramp for 78. I was willing to give this the old college try. NJ is notoriously bad as far as signage goes. As soon as we were on 280 to 78 there was a sign ” I 95, I 78 exit right lane. Well we did that but then there was an unmarked fork. I stayed right and ended up on 78 going west- the “wrong” direction if my destination was Laguardia airport. Here I had a near meltdown resulting in a moment of surrender. G and I were going to continue west- toward his home- toward a night on the futon and away from any idea of Laguardia- which lay across Manhattan at rush hour.
